Studio in Lisbon, Portugal

——————

I am a self-taught artist. I paint almost exclusively on paper. I use Acrylics, Chinese ink, Oil stick, and Wax. (Please scroll down for detailed exhibition history)

I call paper my “co-conspirator”.

I only paint people. They speak, I listen.

I search for the finest museum quality papers from all over the world. (Hand dyed papers from Rajasthan, India. Handmade papers from Mexico and Thailand. Rice papers from Japan and China.)

Born in 1947 in New York City, my work has been strongly influenced by the fearless writers, musicians and painters of the 1950's and 1960's who courageously paved the way for generations to follow.

James Baldwin, John Coltrane, Henry Miller, Eric Dolphy, Joan Miro, Miles Davis, Frenz Klein, Lenny Bruce, Jean Dubuffet to give you a small idea of my influences.

I am very fortunate to have lived and painted in beautiful parts of the world. Strong influences from spending time in North Africa when I was young. I’ve painted in Turkey, Greece and India. I am greatly inspired by ancient cave art.

Man has always made beautiful things with his hands - because he could. Because it is an expression of his vision and also, because it is great fun.

From the ancients into the future there is a continuum of artists who contribute beauty and ideas to the world.

I aspire to be a part of this continuum and consequently part of the optimism of humanity.

My work is collected internationally and I am infinitely grateful for all the people who have the courage to fill their lives with art.

L'art rupestre ancien m’a fortement inspirée.
